Our Workshops give you all you need to flourish as an expressive photographer

Pixels to Print Workshops

The custom built one or two day Pixels to Print Workshops are designed specifically for the benefit of camera clubs and photographic societies.

Day One

On the first day of the Pixels to Print workshop we will be immersed in taking pictures in a location near to your club. The Pixels to Print Workshops are equally useful for colour and mono photographers. Day one will focus on developing Seeing skills with the ABC of CameraWork method. Discover how differently the world looks when the camera sees in black and white.

As an option for the evening of the first day, Andy could lead a show and tell session for the participants. Members show and discuss their work with the group.

Day Two

On the second day we will post-process the pictures in Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC. Get the look, taste and smell of a darkroom print from your inkjet printer.

The tutorials will be based upon Andy’s book “The Dark Art – a black and white digital printing workshop manual”

“Pictures are taken, but photographs are made”.

Storm, Penzance – January 2017

The subject of the second day of a Pixels to Print Workshop is the making of photographs from the digital negative

The series of pictures above demonstrates the art and craft of black and white photographic printing or post-processing. Moving from top left is the colour original raw file without any amendment, to the right a desaturated black and white copy without further controls added, on the bottom row the global contrast has been increased with a tone curve adjustment, finally the picture with the local adjustments added to the waves, sky and figure.

Testimonial

“Throughout (the Pixels to Print Workshop) Andy was clear and thorough in his explanations and very generous with his advice. The accompanying book is possibly the most practically useful guide I have seen of digital photography from camera to print. Direct, pragmatic advice on the technicalities and let the accompanying photographs speak for the art seems to be the approach and it works very well indeed.”

Storrington Camera Club – May 2017
