How to insert motivational hints in Lightroom
Note in the Screen Grab below the Identity Plate Editor has been used to change the text from “Lightroom Classic” to “What the is the highest potential – Is this the best you can do?” Click on the picture below to enlarge it.
How to provide motivational hints in Lightroom
When I am post-processing a picture I need to be constantly asking myself two vital questions
- What is the highest potential for the picture?
- Is this the best I can do with this picture?
The Lightroom appearance setup can be customised to include any text or graphic. This could be a reminder or a motivational hint as I suggest or it could be your logo if you have one. The benefit of this constant reminder is that it will always be there until you decide to change it.
So we are talking about editing the text at the top of your Lightroom Window that probably says “Lightroom CC or Lightroom Classic CC”. To access the customisable text you need to open the “Identity Plate Editor” – Edit > Identity Plate Setup. See the screen grab opposite. As an option to return to the current standard set up you can click on Identity Plate – Lightroom Classic CC – If you want a safety blanket.
Examples of motivational hints
- Is this the best I can do?
- Is this the best I can do with this picture?
- Is this picture as good as my best work?
- Have I presented my complete vision and style to the viewer?
- What would AN Other (Insert name of an influence) do with this picture? Eg. What would Ansel Adams do with this picture?
- What subject matter do I want to dominate this picture?
- Does this picture have a graphic or an emotional impact?

Hi Andy… if your Identity Plate says Lightroom Classic CC, does this mean you’ve bitten the bullet and gone subscription? Or was that for the benefit of people who have made the jump?
Hi Steve as I understand it both CC and Classic are subscription only. If I was not using a personalised Identity plate mine would say “Lightroom Classic CC”.
The only non-subscription Lr is Lightroom 6 (if you can still buy it?) There, I am fairly certain the ID plate says “Lightroom 6” (I just happen to see an old version of Lr I had on an old laptop that said Lightroom 4).
So in answer to the second part of your question – yes it was for the benefit of those who made the jump.
Thanks
